Domaine des Lambrays is the main owner of the AOC Grand Cru vineyard Clos des Lambrays, which has an incredible history, dating back to 1365. During the French Revolution it was split between 74 owners, but now it just has two, with Domaine des Lambrays owning the majority.
Lying in Morey-Saint-Denis in the centre of the Côte de Nuits, the vineyard was elevated from Premier Cru to Grand Cru status in 1981. The grapes are picked entirely by hand, before being made into wine in the traditional Burgundian way. They are then aged in oak for 18 months.
The incredible soils found in Clos des Lambrays, from rocky red soil at the top to concentrated clay at the bottom, help the wines achieve a variety of flavours. Each vintage is intensely concentrated with great minerality.
These wines are seen as prime examples of Pinot Noir, and in comparison to other Burgundy Grand Crus their prices are exceptional.
Some very high quality white wines are also made from the Domaine's holdings in Puligny-Montrachet, in the vineyards of les Folatières and Clos du Cailleret. The wines are full-bodied, elegant and delicate.
