The beautiful manor house where Meerlust is based has been home to owner Hannes Myburgh’s family since 1756. In the 1960s Meerlust began planting Cabernet Sauvignon, then Merlot and Cabernet Franc in order to imitate and even surpass the great wines of Bordeaux. The results have been thoroughly pleasing, with all wines made here, from the Chardonnay to the flagship Rubicon (Bordeaux blend) referencing the French classics to remarkable effect. Particularly good value is the Meerlust Red, made from young vines which will eventually produce fruit for the far more expensive Rubicon blend.
