The Orbiel river meanders through the Minervois appellation and was, traditionally speaking, an essential part of Languedoc life for the vignerons of the region. In addition to moderating the climate and bringing much needed moisture to the parched landscape, the Orbiel also provided valuable transport links to potential markets further afield than Carcassone.
Today, the area is part of the world's largest wine producing region, but is renowned for the quality of its local co-operative cellars. Ten of these co-ops have got together and invited high-flying winemaker Hugh Ryman to take his pick of their fruit, in order to create a range of wines for Roberson that offer unbelievable value for money.
Our buying team worked closely with Hugh, who has been making wine all over the world for years, in order to find blends that we thought our customers would love. Ryman is best known for being the inspiration behind the film 'A Good Year' starring Russell Crowe, and while he might not be as handsome as Russell, we believe his Orbiel & Freres wines stand head and shoulders above anything else at this price.
