German wine may be starting to emerge from years of neglect by British drinkers. At one time, the great wines of Germany were among the world’s most prized. Then quality nosedived, the fashion changed and sweet German wine was the opposite of where it was at. This was only ever going to be reversed by quality-minded producers making great wine and finding a way to explain it simply. It helps that drier whites and some reds are also now being made, but you still can't beat the sweeter German Rieslings. With their incredible acidity, ability to age for decades and bargain prices, they are well worth a little effort.
