Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey, Meursault Narvaux

"A typical Meursault nose offers up notes of hazelnut and acacia blossom along with background nuances of sulfur and wood toast. There is excellent minerality and punch to the middle weight flavors that display fine delineation before concluding in a clean, dry and focused finish. This is lovely and very Narvaux." - Allen Meadows, Outstanding Top value

Domaine Comte de Vogue, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru

"Deep ruby. Once again there is an exuberant freshness to the nose of plum, violet, peony, spice and earth aromas where a top note of kirsch is present. There is outstanding density and power to the big-bodied and overtly muscular flavors that deliver fine complexity on the caressing, sappy and harmonious finish. This too is lovely and should drink well a bit earlier than it normally does if that's your preference." - Allen Meadows

Domaine Denis Mortet, Chambertin Grand Cru

"Here there is no reductive funk as there is a lovely purity to the super-fresh and quite floral nose of dark currants, spice, game and newly turned earth. There is an almost painful intensity to the strikingly energetic and overtly mineral-driven flavors that are tautly muscular though not in the least big rustic while exhibiting terrific persistence on the youthfully austere and very firmly structured finish. Patience is absolutely essential for this potentially brilliant effort." - Allen Meadows, Don't miss!

Domaine Denis Mortet, Chambertin Grand Cru

"Moderate oak is still present on the very spicy if somewhat more restrained nose that features a broad-ranging combination of earth, game, black fruit, humus and violet aromas. The sleek, intense and mineral-driven big-bodied flavors possess superb muscle and power before terminating in a balanced, saline and hugely long finish. This brilliant effort is an imposing and notably serious wine that is very Chambertin in basic character and has the structure to prove it. Patience." - Allen Meadows

Thierry Allemand, Cornas Reynard

"Brilliant violet. An expansive bouquet evokes dark berry liqueur, Indian spices, violet candy and incense, brightened by a smoky mineral nuance that builds in the glass. Sappy, sweet and penetrating on the palate, offering pliant black raspberry, cherry liqueur and floral pastille flavors complemented by exotic five-spice powder and white pepper accents. Spicy, sweet and seamless on the remarkably persistent finish, which displays velvety, harmonious tannins and resonating floral and blue fruit notes." - Josh Raynolds, Vinous Media

Louis Roederer, Cristal

"The 2005 Brut Cristal stands out for its exceptional inner perfume and elegance. Soft, delicate and pretty, the 2005 is relatively immediate Cristal with all of the signatures very much in the right place. The 2005 doesn't have the opulence of the 2002 nor the focus of the 2004, but it is a very pretty, if somewhat small-scaled version of this iconic Champagne. I would drink the 2005 while the 2002 and 2004 age. Although Cristal has an impeccable track record when it comes to aging, personally I would not push it with the 2005." - Antonio Galloni

Louis Roederer, Cristal Rose

"Still a baby, the 2004 Cristal Rosé has begun to put on considerable weight over the last few years, which only serves to balance the focus and tension that have always been present. Even at eleven years of age, the 2004 Cristal Rosé remains tightly wound and a touch austere at times. Hints of orange peel, white pepper and cranberry add an exotic flair on the deeply expressive finish. Readers who can find the 2004 should not hesitate, as it is simply stunning by any measure." - Antonio Galloni

Domaine Comte de Vogue, Musigny Blanc

"A discreet touch of wood can be found on the overtly floral-infused aromas that display additional breadth in the form of Poire Williams (pear brandy), petrol and citrus zest. There is a touch of wood on the palate as well of the caressing large-scaled flavors that display an abundance of both dry extract and minerality on the impressively long and very dry finale that is a bit less youthfully austere than it usually is." - Allen Meadows

Philipponnat, Clos des Goisses

"The 2008 Clos des Goisses is just as impressive today as it has always been. Rich, dense and explosive, the 2008 exists in three dimensions, with remarkable textural depth and vertical intensity to burn. Clos des Goisses is notoriously slow to develop. Readers who can be patient will be treated to a spectacular Champagne. The blend is 55% Chardonnay and 45% Pinot Noir, which makes the 2008 a rare Clos des Goisses that favors Chardonnay. About 75% of the lots were fermented in oak. Disgorged April 2017. Dosage is 4.25 grams per liter." - Antonio Galloni

Quintarelli, Recioto della Valpolicella Classico A Roberto

"This wine is dedicated to Roberto Ferrarini, the longtime consulting enologist who worked with Giuseppe Quintarelli and the Quintarelli family until his death in 2014. The beautiful 2007 Recioto della Valpolicella Classico A Roberto (packaged in a 375-millliter bottle) is a stunning and magical creation. The last vintage this estate made a Recioto was in 2004, and at the time of this tasting, there was no future vintage earmarked to follow this bottling. Those of you lucky enough to taste this bottle will be rewarded with carefully crafted aromas of plum and raisin with sweet baking spice, moist earth, campfire ash, fresh espresso and a touch of bitter chocolate. This wine was bottled in 2017 and therefore saw ten years of aging in a normal-sized barrique. The wine shows utter silkiness in terms of texture and is surprising light on its feet despite its 15.5% alcohol. This is a precious collectors' bottle." - Monica Larner

Vega Sicilia, Unico

"I tasted a bottle of the 2009 Único blind and was taken by the freshness, the red fruit notes and the Burgundian-like characteristics of this vintage, which on paper was quite warm and dry. I also tasted the 2009 Valbuena, which is always more approachable, and was blown away by its aromatics. With time in the glass the Único opened up and got closer to the character of Valbuena but with more depth and clout, while showing extremely elegant. I tasted it again in the context of all the wines from the group, and it delivered all that I saw when I tasted it blind. It takes some time to unfurl its aromatic palette, and it feels young and somewhat undeveloped, younger than it is. It has a touch that made me think of the old vintages of Único on the nose but with very polished tannins and a soft mouthfeel that provides elegance. This is a wine that ages for no less than ten years before it's released. 2009 seems like a great vintage for Vega Sicilia, much better than what I anticipated. It should develop nicely in bottle. 74,274 bottles, 3,390 magnums, 209 double magnums and 22 imperials were produced. It has been in bottle since June 2015." - Luis Gutiérrez, The Wine Advocate

Bollinger Grande Annee

"Bollinger's 2008 Grande Année is rich, ample and full-bodied, with all of the pedigree of the vintage on display. Dried pear, dried flowers, chamomile, red plum and mint develop as the 2008 shows the breadth and creaminess that are such signatures of the Bollinger house style. A whole range of brighter, more floral and chalky notes appear later, adding translucence and energy. The 2008 is 71% Pinot Noir and 29% Chardonnay taken across 18 crus, and it is the Pinot that very much informs the wine in both flavor and texture. More importantly, the 2008 is one of the best Grande Années I can remember tasting. Bollinger fans won't want to miss it. Disgorged November 2018. Dosage is 8 grams per liter." - Antonio Galloni

Château La Clotte (Saint Emilion)

"This was the first vintage for the Vauthier family of Château Ausone off this tiny three-hectare estate. Composed of 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, 85% new, the 2015 La Clotte displays a medium to deep garnet-purple color and a very spicy nose of cinnamon stick, cloves, star anise and allspice over core of red and black currants, mulberries and black soil plus a waft of violets. Full-bodied and decadently fruited with a firm backbone of very ripe, beautifully velvety tannins, it has a lively backbone providing loads of lift throughout the very long finish." - Lisa Perrotti-Brown

G.D. Vajra, Barolo Bricco delle Viole

"The 2014 Barolo Bricco delle Viole is positively stunning. There are many things about this wine that are super-impressive, but what stands out most is how soft and silky the tannins are. Because of that, the 2014 is much more approachable than it usually is, and yet also conveys the feeling of translucence that is such a signature of this site and wine. I am not sure I have ever tasted a young Bricco delle Viole with this much purity of fruit. The 2014 is total class. Don't miss it." - Antonio Galloni

Domaine du Pegau, Châteauneuf du Pape Reserve

"A wine I've probably drunk a case or more of since release, the full-bodied, fat and concentrated 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reservee is certainly a great wine from this estate. Reminiscent of the 1990 with its voluptuous, sexy and ethereal texture, this still deep ruby colored Chateauneuf du Pape is as Provencal as Provence gets, with killer notes of roasted herbs, soy, beef blood, lavender and garrigue. While this wine was a touch erratic in its youth, recent bottles have been much more consistent and I suspect it's just now starting to enter its long window of prime drinking." - Jeb Dunnuck

Domaine Guy Roulot, Meursault Meix Chavaux

"Here the nose is largely dominated by sulfur and only a hint of white orchard fruit shows through. Dominus Estate, Napanook

"Very deep purple-black in color, the 2016 Napanook Proprietary Red Wine is composed of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot and 7% Cabernet Franc aged in 20% new oak. A beautiful perfume of violets, aniseed, truffles and lavender is just starting to emerge over a core of warm cassis, blackberry preserves and ripe plum plus hints of cedar chest, chocolate box, rare beef and cardamom. The palate is medium to full-bodied and firmly textured with very ripe tannins, gradually revealing layers of black and blue fruits plus loads of earthy sparks, finishing with amazing freshness and depth. 3,500 cases produced." - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, The Wine Advocate
