The De-Andres Sisters, Ana and Ruth, are revolutionising the wine scene in Spain, notably in the Sierra de Gredos region. Their ‘Garganta del Aguila’ translates to 'neck of the eagle', a name that reflects the wild beauty of the Gredos landscape, much like the local eagles soaring overhead. Crafted from vines over a century old and situated at an elevation of 3,000 ft, their 2020 Garnacha undergoes both fermentation and maturation in concrete tanks, merging ancient methods with modern expertise. The result is a wine with a more substantial mouthfeel and texture than the typical Gredos wines, derived from the low yields of 90 hand-harvested sites, each less than 1 hectare in size. The wine itself is an excellent value, offering a richness that pairs wonderfully with a range of dishes, from hearty roasts to mild Indian curries.
