This is a top Cabernet Sauvignon from one of the most influential women in wine, using only the fruit from a single vineyard. This is one of the last old Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards in the Napa Valley. Its scraggly clusters of tiny berries yield extremely limited quantities of dark, concentrated and aromatic single-vineyard wine that speaks eloquently of place. With high praises like 98 pts by Antonio Galloni and 97 pts from Wine Enthusiast, it's clear the Kronos 2019 is a standout. It's not just about the ratings; it's about the deep flavours, old-vine character, and Cathy's unmatched winemaking touch. A true Napa gem!
Read more"The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Kronos Vineyard is very clearly one of the wines of the vintage. One of the things I love about the 2019 is the way it conveys power and density, but without weight. In that sense, it is perhaps atypical for Napa Valley Cabernets in this vintage. Even so, I find the sense of beauty here absolutely beguiling. The 2019 Kronos is an absolutely stunning wine. I could describe the aromas and flavours, but that seems pretty banal for a wine that is so clearly towering in its splendour. Don’t miss it! "
"Rather an ethereally ripe nose with wonderful refreshment on the end and so much fruit that it almost obliterates the not inconsiderable tannin structure. Cedar/cigar-box notes. Real energy and life to this wine! It's very tempting to drink this straight away because it has so much charm but you know it would make sense to wait awhile. Super-clean and vibrant. A model for Napa? Great mineral note on the end. So long and rewarding. One sip lasts a minute…"
"This snugly wrapped, agile, medium-bodied wine from old vines keeps a core of raspberries, violets and black currants under a veil of silky tannins. The wine's excellent acid balance, tension and sense of depth will unleash more complexity as the tannins resolve over time. Best from 2028–2040." - Jim Gordon
Established in 1971 and acquired by Corison in 1995, Kronos proudly stands as one of Napa's few remaining old Cabernet vineyards. Planted on resilient St. George rootstock, these organically farmed vines might be limited in their yields, but they consistently deliver wines of profound depth, aroma, and complexity.
Cathy's winemaking philosophy is deeply rooted in her respect for the vineyards. Recognising the inherent power of Cabernet Sauvignon, she aims to harness its strength while embracing elegance. This equilibrium is achieved through meticulous vineyard management, ensuring grapes reach optimal ripeness with a retained vibrancy. In the winery, her non-interventionist approach lets the grapes express themselves. Post-fermentation, the wines mature for 20 months in French oak barrels, allowing for a nuanced development of character.
