Every so often, Carl Koch surprises us with releases from their cellar of rare back vintages, and this 30-year-old Riesling is a true gem. Over the years, this Auslese has developed into an extraordinary wine, maturing wonderfully since 1993. It's beautifully amber in colour - a prelude to the symphony of flavours inside: layers of dried apricots, tangerine and orange, from the tangy pith to the zestful skin, all enriched by a beautiful oxidative complexity. More than just its age, this Riesling maintains a vibrant acidity, offering a crisp, balanced counterpoint to its rich fruit notes. Pairs perfectly with the subtle smokiness of smoked salmon or brings out the best in a variety of hard cheeses. It's an ideal choice for those special occasions or just to elevate an ordinary evening. Just a heads-up when you're ready to pour: the cork might be a bit tricky after 30 years. We suggest using an 'Ah-So' wine opener, or something similar, for a smoother opening. If the cork does break, don't worry. Just pour the wine through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a decanter to catch any cork bits. Then, you're all set to enjoy this unique, aged Riesling.
