Sparkling White Wine

Sparkling white wines are made across the world, using a variety of different methods to create the bubbles that make these wines so uplifting and refreshing. The queen of sparkling white wines is of course Champagne, where the wines undergo a secondary fermentation in bottle and many months of ageing prior to release. This ‘traditional method’ has been copied by many of the best sparkling white winemakers outside the Champagne region, including those making wines in England, where the chalky soils and cool climate are perfectly suited to making world-class sparkling wines.

In regional France you can find high quality sparkling white wines labelled as ‘Cremant’, and these can offer exceptional quality at a much sharper price. Countries such as Italy use a simpler and quicker production method for their Prosecco, which means it can be sold cheaply, but may not offer the depth of flavour or persistence of bubbles offered by the best sparkling whites.
