95/100 - The 2022 Pinot Noir Richardson Ranch emerges from a young vineyard in Annapolis. It’s a gorgeous wine for a vineyard in its first crop. Pliant and creamy, the 2022 shows the textural richness and intensity without excess weight that can be achieved in some sites on the West Sonoma Coast. The Richardson family history along the Sonoma Coast began in 1876. With grit, determination and five generations of hard work, the family acquired thousands of acres of timberland and miles of the Sonoma coastline near Annapolis and Stewarts Point. From the beginning, they operated with a deep conservation ethos. In 2016, they worked with the Save The Redwoods League to permanently preserve a significant old-growth redwood forest, including the oldest known redwood tree, which is about 1,640 years of age.
In 2019, just 4.5 miles from the ocean and alongside these massive coastal redwoods, they planted Alma Fria's blocks in their first vineyard, using budwood Alma Fria provided.
