98/100 - It's easy to forget that the first vintage of Garmón was as recent as 2014, such is the quality of the wine, but the García family's long-standing association with the region has certainly contributed to its success. Picked 10 days later than the 2017, this is my favourite release yet, combining vineyards between 30 and 100 years' old in Anguix, Baños de Valdearados, Moradillo and Tubilla. 97/100 - Deep-red-violet in the glass, this wine has a nose of dark plum, cassis and forest floor. Robust tannins settle into the mouth backing flavors of dark berries, mocha, herbes de Provence and aniseed. There is a beautiful tension on the palate between tannins and refreshing acidity. Bodegas Continental is the new family project of long-standing Vega-Sicília oenologist Mariano García, established to restore the value of old Tempranillo clones and the old vineyards of the Ribera del Duero region. Garmón is produced from vineyard plots in the cooler east of the region.
