Bursting with earthy blue fruits, smokey undertones, and a medley of herbs and florals, this Syrah thrives in a landscape defined by granite, schist, and decomposed gneiss soils. As an IGP Collines Rhodaniennes wine, it's sourced from the left bank of the Rhône, facing renowned AOCs like Condrieu and Côte Rôtie.
François Merlin is a self-taught, first-generation Northern Rhône winemaker, mentored by esteemed names in the industry such as René Rostaing and Georges Vernay.
The Brocéliande Syrah is a treasure for its price, showcasing characteristics in line with more expensive wines like Crozes-Hermitage.
TASTING PROFILE:
Earthy blue fruits like boysenberry, damson plum, and black cherry, with traces of smoky meat drippings and pepper
Flavours of red fruits with hints of snappy herbs, crushed violets, and undertones of crème de cassis and liquorice
IN THE VINEYARD:
Located in the IGP Collines Rhodaniennes region, the vineyards lie opposite to renowned AOCs of Condrieu and Côte Rôtie on the Rhône's left bank
The landscape is defined by steep slopes (30-40%), with granite, schist, red clay, and decomposed gneiss soils
The vineyard is moving towards organic farming, with sustainable practices in place and grapes handpicked
IN THE WINERY:
Sourced from 20 to 60-year-old vines and aged in used French oak barriques
François has been refining his winemaking style, opting for riper de-stemmed fruit and an opulent elegance
New oak usage has been gradually reduced, with a mix of Stockinger demi-muids and French barriques
