Creating a stand-out Chardonnay from UK-grown grapes is no easy feat, but London Cru rose to the challenge. Citrus-packed and expertly balanced with subtle oak. Comparable to some of best Chardonnays from around the world.
Through careful vineyard selection in West Sussex, London Cru have achieved the perfect balance of aromatic, ripe fruit from sandy Petworth soils and vibrant acidity from the loamy, flint-rich soil of West Marden.
Grapes were foot-stomped and gently pressed, extracting maximum flavour and texture from the skins. Fermentation in neutral oak barrels with classic Burgundian yeast, followed by full malolactic fermentation, created a beautifully rounded Chardonnay, further enhanced by seven months of ageing in these same barrels.
How it tastes
Expressive citrus fruit and subtle oak notes on the nose. On the palate, expect a refreshing journey from green apple and lemon curd flavours to a steely citrus finish. It might be a little shy at first - best to coax it open with a large Burgundy glass or decant for full expression.
Pair this Chardonnay with local goat cheeses, dressed crab, poached fish, or seafood pastas.
